James Slaven
(1832 - 1833)
James Slaven was the infant son of Irish immigrants.

Prejudice against the Irish was common in early 19th century America, and James Slaven's parents may well have lived in a poor neighborhood in proximity to Hardscrabble. Though the Great Famine (1845 - 1849) in Ireland was long after James died, Irish migrants long came to Rhode Island (to work in the river-powered textile mills), and the United States in general to escape poverty.
